How It Works

Finding your representatives in three steps

1

Enter your zip code or select your state

Type your 5-digit zip code to automatically identify your U.S. congressional district, or browse by state to see the full delegation. Zip codes are matched to congressional districts using official Census Bureau district maps.

2

See your full congressional delegation

Every U.S. citizen is represented by exactly three members of Congress: two U.S. Senators (representing your entire state) and one House Representative (representing your specific congressional district). All three are shown instantly.

3

Explore biographies, legislation, and contact info

Click any member to view their full profile: official biography, all sponsored legislation from the current Congress, election history, Washington D.C. office phone number, and a direct link to their official government website.

How Congress Works

Senate vs. House of Representatives

U.S. Senate

  • 100 total members
  • 2 senators per state
  • 6-year terms
  • Staggered elections — ⅓ up every 2 years
  • Confirms presidential nominees
  • Ratifies treaties

U.S. House

  • 435 total members
  • Districts based on population
  • 2-year terms
  • All seats up every 2 years
  • Originates revenue bills
  • Initiates impeachment

Both chambers must pass identical versions of a bill before it goes to the President for signature. The current Congress is the 119th United States Congress, which began in January 2025.

Data Sources

Official government data, always

SearchMyRep pulls directly from two authoritative U.S. government APIs. We don't scrape third-party sites or rely on manually maintained databases that can fall out of date.

🏛️
Congress.gov API
Library of Congress

The authoritative source for all congressional data: member biographies, term history, sponsored legislation, party affiliation, contact information, and committee assignments.

api.congress.gov
🗳️
FEC API
Federal Election Commission

Official source for U.S. election results, campaign finance data, and candidate filings. Used for election history, vote totals, and upcoming election information on each member page.

api.open.fec.gov

Both APIs are maintained by the U.S. federal government and provide public-domain data at no cost. Data is cached for up to 24 hours and refreshed automatically.

Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions
